The faculty members and students of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University have successfully developed, for the first time, a quick and easy-to-use portable sweat test device for COVID-19 to detect specific scents in sweat caused by bacteria.  Sample collection only takes 15 minutes per person, and the results can be obtained in 30 seconds.  The sweat test is now being used in community screening.

Chula Engineering has come up with an idea to help COVID-19 patients handle the crisis of hospital bed shortage and the overflowing number of patients by providing them with “a survival kit” complete with essential items and guidelines for self-care at home, as well as communication channels with officials while waiting for their beds. This is to help relieve the patients’ anxiety and to enable the community to survive the crisis together.

Faculty members from Sasin School of Management, Chulalongkorn University suggest that Thai people use positive energy to solve problems. The government must be the center of the lockdown and send clear messages about mitigating measures.

Chula Pharmacy prepares to test “Baiya Vaccine” a Thai vaccine against COVID-19 by “Baiya Phytofarm”, a Chula startup. The vaccines have been produced at the first plant in Asia that manufactures plant-based vaccines for humans. Clinical trials with volunteers and the research for the second-generation vaccine to fight the virus variants are to commence in September 2021.

Chula’s Faculty of Engineering joins hands with PTT to develop a 2 in1 face mask, an innovation that protects against PM2.5 dust particles and COVID-19 virus that can be reused more than 15 times, helps reduce waste, is pollution-free, and will be available for sale soon.

Chula researchers have found that “rutin” extract from orange peel can kill the COVID-19 virus. They are developing it into drugs while pointing out that drug research is still necessary along with vaccine research and suggesting that Thai people should adjust their views on herbs to create added value.
