Chulalongkorn’s Lecturers and Researchers Win National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) Awards 2024 

Chula Professors Win 2024 National Research Awards

Chulalongkorn University proudly congratulates distinguished professors and researchers on their outstanding achievements, which have been recognized by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) with the National Outstanding Researcher Awards for 2024. These awards honor excellence in research, theses, and creative works.

National Outstanding Researcher Awards for 2024

Out of a total of nine awardees spanning seven fields of study, our Chula professors have excelled in four distinct areas.

Research Awards 

Chulalongkorn University received 9 awards out of 58 in 12 fields:  

Excellent Research Award: 1 project 

  1. Prof.Dr. Pramoch Rangsunvigit and team from the Petroleum and Petrochemical College for the project titled “Gas Storage in Solid Forms: From Energy Sustainability to Environmental Sustainability” (Engineering and Industry Research)  

Research Awards: 8 projects  

  1. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Varisa Pongrakhananon and team from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences for the project titled “Role of Calmodulin-Regulated Spectrin-Associated Proteins (CAMSAPs) in Lung Cancer Cells to Develop Biomarkers and Targeted Protein in Treatment” (Medical Science)  
     
  2. Dr. Sudkate Chaiyo and team from the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering for the project titled “Electrochemical Biosensors on Paper Base for COVID-19 Diagnosis: A Detection of Corona Virus Antibody and Antigen” (Chemical Science and Pharmaceutical Sciences)
      
  3. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amornchai Arpornwichanop and team from the Faculty of Engineering for the project titled “Developing and Predicting Fuel Cell Electrode Material Through Machine Learning for Generation of Clean Electrical Energy” (Engineering and Industry Research) 
  4. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Athiphat Muthitacharoen and team from the Faculty of Economics for the project titled “VAT Threshold and Small Business Behavior: Evidence from Thai Tax Returns” (Economics)
     
  5. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ruttiya Bhula-Or and team from the College of Population Studies for the project titled “Innovation to Enhance Job Security and Income for Pre-Elderly and Elderly Informal Sector Workers by Promoting Solidarity Economy through Digital Platforms” (Social Science)
     
  6. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sumonthip Chitsawang from the Faculty of Political Science for the project titled “The Research Program Thai Challenges: A Non-Violent Thai Society (Year 2)” (Social Science)  
  7. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phnom Kleechay from the Faculty of Communication Arts for the project titled “Development of Elderly’s Technology Intelligence to Strengthen their Security in Income, Health and Living upon New Normal Aging Society” (Information Technology and Communication Arts)  
  8. Prof. Dr. Noawanit Songkram and Miss Hathaiphat Osuwan from the Faculty of Education for the project titled “National Digital Learning Platform System for Thailand” (Education)  

Thesis Awards 

Chulalongkorn University received 1 award out of 51 in 12 fields, namely Dr. Boodsarin Sawatlon who won the Thesis Award for the thesis titled “Molecular Volcano Plots: Tools for Rationalizing and Predicting the Performance of Homogeneous Catalysts” (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences)

Innovation Awards  

Chulalongkorn University received 9 awards out of 60 in 9 fields:  

Excellent Innovation Awards: 1 project 

  1. Asst. Prof. Dr. Somchai Bunyanant and team from the Faculty of Education for the project titled: “WaGMuS: Sand from Wasted Green Mussel Shells for Play-Sand Kits” (Philosophy)  

Innovation Awards: 3 projects 

  1. Prof. Dr. Roongroj Bhidayasiri from the Excellence Center for Parkinson’s Disease & Related Disorders for the project titled “Innovative Walking Aid with an Arm Weight Support System for Parkinson’s Patients with Walking and Balancing Problems and Arched Backs” (Medical Science)  
  2. Prof. Dr. Orawon Chailapakul and team from the Faculty of Science for the project titled “Development of Electrochemical Methods for Quality Inspection of Cannabis-Derived Products and Screening of Individuals Who Smoke Cannabis in Legally Regulated Areas” (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences)  
  3. Dr. Wilasinee Suksawang from the Faculty of Architecture for the project titled “Insight Wat Pho: Application for Learning and Tourism in Wat Pho” (Social Science)  

Honorary Innovation Awards: 5 projects  

  1. Prof. Dr. Sanong Ekgasit and team from the Faculty of Science for the project titled “DuriVoice: A Device for Recording Durian Knocking Sound without Interference for Maturity Determination via Artificial Intelligence” (Physical Science and Mathematics) 
  2. Dr. Abdulhadee Yakoh and Dr. Sudkate Chaiyo from the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering for the project titled “GoCheck: Electronic DNA Chip for a 15 Minute-Scaled Gonorrhea Testing” (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences)  
  3. Prof. Dr. Nongnuj Muangsin and team from the Faculty of Science for the project titled “PlaivazenGold” (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences) 
  4. Dr. Sudkate Chaiyo and team from the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering for the project titled “Rapid Electrochemical Strip Test for Determination of THC Content” (Agriculture and Biology)  
  5. Asst. Prof. Dr. Pawana Chuesiri and team from the Faculty of Veterinary Science for the project titled “White Rat Organs (Rattusnorvegicus) Made from Waste Materials as an Interactive Model for Self-Learning” (Education)
