Activities in the university help enhance valuable life skills and experiences that cannot be found in the classroom. Volunteer camps are interesting activities that broaden the horizon for students to learn about community service and understand the importance of sharing with those less fortunate in society. Miss Kamolchanok Sukphronah, a second-year student at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Youth of Bangkok Award in Morality and Ethics, also discovered that participating in volunteer development camps provided more value than expected. She found happiness and pride in being able to help others.
Miss Kamolchanok, or Ice, has been actively involved in various university activities from the time she was a freshman. Some of the camps that she participated in were Rabies Camp, CUVET Camp, etc., including the latest camp to vaccinate dogs and cats in Chonburi province. These activities provided her with valuable experiences, from academic skills to fostering good leadership and volunteerism. Besides volunteer camp activities, Ice also enjoys dancing. She has showcased her beautiful dance performance at the opening ceremony of the CU-TU Unity Football Match 2024 and the opening ceremony of the CU Freshy Games.
One reason Ice enjoys participating in various activities is because her mother instilled this in her by sending her to traditional and modern dance lessons since she was young. She is now a member of the CU Dance Club. To her, joining activities provides her with opportunities to develop herself in many aspects and take on responsibilities in roles she has never done before. In addition to developing skills, extracurricular activities also help her relax, enhance teamwork skills, allow her to meet friends from different faculties, and boost her confidence and self-esteem. As a result, she becomes more prepared to face challenges and learn from real-life experiences.
Aside from the 2024 Outstanding Youth of Bangkok Award in Morality and Ethics, which is a testament to her outstanding performance in helping society and communities, Ice has also been honored with several awards such as the 2023 Grateful Children to Mothers Award and the Moral Award from National Council on Social Welfare of Thailand under the Royal Patronage (NCSWT) and the Ideal Youth Award 2023 in Community Service. Ice will receive the Outstanding Youth of Bangkok Award in Morality and Ethics on August 24, 2024.
“The activities that I’ve been involved in are just a small part. If various sectors in society join forces and engage in activities for the common good, it can undoubtedly create tangible changes in society,” Ice remarked.
“Work hard, play harder” is Ice’s motto. This dedicated student strives to excel academically and manages to be active in extracurricular activities with joy in both. She offers advice for those who wish to engage in activities beneficial to the community and society: start with things close to you and do what you love to help others. It doesn’t have to be anything big; you’re already halfway to success simply by just beginning.
