The Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University (CommArts) held a press conference announcing a step towards the 60th year of the faculty’s establishment on the 59th anniversary of the Faculty of Communication Arts on July 5, 2024, at Dr. Tiam Chokwadhana Auditorium. The event also saw the launch of CU Nitade Extension Co., Ltd., under the supervision of CU Enterprise Co., Ltd., a Chulalongkorn University’s holding company.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Preeda Akarachantachote, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, gave an opening remark at the press conference on collaboration between CommArts and partners, to announce the entry into the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Communication Arts. The collaboration started with the signing of an MOU to jointly develop knowledge in communication arts combined with effective professional practice, in partnership with MCOT Public Company Limited. MCOT is a leading media organization in Thailand with a complete media ecosystem including radio, television, and digital platforms, ready for students in various departments to gain hands-on experience, enhancing their competencies in the current communication arts profession.
Mr. Treethep Thaikuruphan, Managing Director of CU Nitade Extension Co., Ltd., discussed the company’s contribution to the Faculty of Communication Arts’ operations, enabling the application of various communication arts research to further create business growth opportunities, and play a crucial role in the development of communication innovations at the national level. The company is integral to advancing research and innovation growth to be on par with international standards through developing curricula that support lifelong learning with the faculty’s professors. The curricula aim to provide opportunities for those interested in studying various fields of communication arts, such as filmmaking, public relations, and digital media production, to enroll in short-term courses that emphasize professional development taught by skilled professionals in various fields. This leads to hands-on practice alongside the study of essential theoretical foundations. The program offers diverse curricula and various training formats that interested individuals can choose to study at their convenience.
Mr. Treethep Thaikuruphan revealed that “this collaboration bridges the needs of the industry with the capabilities of the faculty members of the Faculty of Communication Arts at Chulalongkorn University. The company serves as an intermediary in distributing collaborative efforts among the faculty members. Additionally, students interested in developing new concepts, such as filmmaking, can showcase their work in the film festival that the faculty hosts each year. Film companies will discuss and select interesting projects for further development. This promotes a collaboration that benefits students, faculty members, the department, and the university.”
Mr. Treethep added, “The signing of this agreement with MCOT marks an important step that will greatly benefit both the faculty and students. MCOT is a large platform that includes both radio and online platforms, providing opportunities for students from the Faculty of Communication Arts to intern and gain real-world experience.”
The end of the press conference featured a discussion on CommArts’ expansion of learning with the Tourist Police Bureau, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sukanya Sompiboon, Deputy Dean for Research, International Affairs, and Social Engagement, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Paonrach Yodnane, Deputy Dean for Student Affairs. The outcomes from the discussion will be further expanded in various areas and incorporated into a range of activities throughout July 2024 when the Faculty of Communication Arts reaches its 60th anniversary.
