An Impressive Chula Graduation Ceremony to be Proud of  

Chulalongkorn University held its Graduation Ceremony between 2 – 4 October 2024 marking a proud moment for Chula graduates who have achieved their educational dreams. Some of this year’s Chula graduates have expressed their impressions of their time at Chulalongkorn University and the joy they experienced on graduation day and have offered their thoughts and advice for the next group of students and graduates to inspire them as they continue on the path toward success.

Phra Maha Anukul Ngaongam, a Doctor of Arts (Pali-Sanskrit and Buddhist Studies) from Chulalongkorn University, Department of Eastern Languages, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, among one of the monk graduates to participate in the graduation ceremony from Chulalongkorn University this year for the first time, explained that his doctoral studies at this University are a continuation from the master’s degree he received in the same area of studies. He described the feelings of pride and what an honour it was to be given the opportunity to receive his degree this year. In terms of his studies in the Pali-Sanskrit and Buddhist Studies program at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, he noted the open-minded atmosphere that differs from the conservative manner of teaching in the temple. Throughout his time of academic pursuit, he has been impressed by the dedication shown by his professors at the Faculty of Arts. He also mentioned the ease and convenience of the services provided by the faculty and the central libraries. 

His doctoral dissertation, a study of “Sirimaṅgala’s Dīpanī literary works and their relations to the literary works of Phra Brahmamoli (Vilat Ñāṇavaro)”, which contribute to future studies of Pali, Sanskrit literature, and Buddhist studies. 

 In the past years Chulalongkorn University has had many monk graduates, but there were no guidelines for receiving their degrees at the royal ceremony. The university administrators perceived the importance of this issue and deemed it appropriate for monks to take part in the ceremony for the first time this year.    The Royal Degree Ceremony for monk graduates was therefore scheduled for Friday, October 4, 2024 at the Reception Room, Chulalongkorn University Auditorium.

Khemsorn Nukao, who received her Ph.D. in Political Science majoring in Criminology and Justice, is a news anchor for the Thairath News Show on Thairath TV.  She described how proud she was to become a graduate of Chulalongkorn University, the institution she had always dreamed of studying at. She was impressed by all the lecturers who were kind and truly dedicated to their students. Her doctoral studies required much discipline and determination, and she made sure she allocated time from her main job as a newscaster to her studies, reviewing the books she read, and writing her dissertation.   Khemsorn shared her thoughts for other Chula students, urging them to be proud of being able to be a part of the Chula community. “Once you have become a student, make sure you use this opportunity to achieve your goals in your studies by studying hard to the best of your ability. I’d like to see everyone expand their knowledge along with building friendships and forming lasting friendships, making their time at Chula a truly unforgettable period of your lives.”

For Sayom Sangwaribut, PhD, Faculty of Education, Managing Director of Dida Video Production Company, graduating from a renowned institution of higher education like Chulalongkorn University is a testament to the effort and overcoming all obstacles with determination until being able to graduate from the Department of Educational Technology and Communication, Faculty of Education.   His dissertation is a study on the subject of self-esteem of the youth. It provided the opportunity for him to create something that has a positive impact on society, especially among the youth, increasing their confidence and the ability to better understand themselves. He feels immensely proud and grateful to all those who have supported him all along, especially his academic advisor who he felt was like a compass guiding him to overcome the various obstacles he faced.

Sirikanya Tiyacharoensri, Ph.D. in Technology Management and Entrepreneurial Innovation, Chulalongkorn University Graduate School (CU TIP), Senior Real Estate and Market Planning Manager, Coffee Concept Retail Co., Ltd., expressed her delight at having successfully completed her doctorate degree as she had intended. She is especially proud of becoming a graduate of Chulalongkorn University with all her educational attainments: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate. She is an example that reflects to society the kind of world-class education one can expect from Chulalongkorn University. She found the University’s expert faculty most impressive, and this has helped develop her into a person who is ready to apply her knowledge completely for the benefit of society.  In terms of achieving success in her studies, she focuses on balancing various aspects of her life, including choosing a program of study that she particularly likes, setting effective end results, and being attuned to her happiness and wellbeing.

 Asst. Prof. Jutiporn Parinyokul, holder of a doctorate from the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, lecturer in Advertising and Public Relations Technology, Faculty of Mass Communication Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, expressed her feelings upon graduating from Chulalongkorn University, saying that she is immensely proud of her educational achievements. Chulalongkorn University is not only a leading educational institution, but also a source of technology and innovation development crucial for serving society. In addition, its faculty members are endowed with proven knowledge and abilities. It is an honor to have been taught by faculty members who are well recognized both nationally and internationally.   

The atmosphere of Chulalongkorn University is most conducive towards learning in all dimensions, with excellent facilities for seeking knowledge, including exceptional care and service to be availed of from Chulalongkorn University personnel. To succeed in one’s studies, no matter what level of education, requires perseverance and diligence to overcome obstacles. She intends to take the knowledge gained from Chulalongkorn University and pass it on to others and develop knowledge and skills to serve society.

Usa Prachakul, a PhD graduate of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, majoring in Design (Fashion and Textiles), the creator of “Innovative Recycled Textiles from Waste Durian Peels”, which received the Outstanding Innovation Award in Higher Education in 2024, acknowledged the fact that pursuing her graduate studies at Chulalongkorn University helped her gain more knowledge and answer all her questions, as well as developing good friendships. Her successful pursuit began with her interest in fashion from the time of her master’s degree studies, and she later extended her research to apply her knowledge to help handicraft communities in Northeastern Thailand, where she received excellent knowledge and guidance under the tutelage of lecturers in the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chulalongkorn University. 

Usa suggests that success in one’s studies starts with passion and interest in the field of study, which will help inspire and overcome one’s obstacles. In addition, time management and self-care are also important.

Preechaya Thanyuwat, who has received a master’s degree in Korean studies, is an entertainment news writer for the Today website, and one of the Chula graduates from the LGBTQ+ community to receive her diploma dressed as a woman this year, said that what she received from Chula was more than just knowledge one can get from textbooks. She chose to study Korean Studies, which is about Korea in terms of language, culture, society, politics, and economics, because she intended to    to disseminate knowledge and understanding about Korea to Thais from various perspectives, in order to build a bridge between the two cultures and open doors to new opportunities in both education and business. She wants all students to try to pursue their dreams through exposure to various activities and their studies. When they graduate, they will be able to confidently and successfully apply what they love to their work or further their studies.

Sahaphap Wongratch, who graduated with second-class honors from the Faculty of Veterinary Science and an actor from GMM TV, credits his professors and friends for the excellent support he received during the time he was a student. He was most impressed by the advice and help he received from everyone at the faculty. During his six years at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, he maintained a sense of discipline and divided his time between studying and working after school in the entertainment industry.  He focused on reviewing lessons in his free time because the subjects he studied required a lot of attention. In the future, he plans to practice in a veterinary clinic alongside his work in the entertainment industry. Sahaphap left a thought for other students: finding a balance between studying, activities, and personal life will help one achieve everything happily and successfully.

Rat Longsomboon, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, President of the Faculty of Medicine Student Council, 2022, and awarded a Royal scholar for 2023, discussed how proud he is to have completed his studies from this University. His success is due to the support he received from the university, lecturers, staff, and fellow students, which has given him the opportunity to learn and develop himself in terms of education and various activities.   

The university is well endowed in terms of its environment and the resources it can provide, including technology, learning media, various supports that help produce well-qualified graduates, the principles for learning that ensures one’s success is different from one individual to another. One needs to take the time to find oneself, allow oneself to avail of opportunities to the fullest, live one’s life at the university with freedom, dare to try new things to develop without putting too much pressure on oneself. In the future, Rat hopes to use medical knowledge to care for patients while developing the country’s public health system.

Thanaporn Kuchaiyanon, a graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, and former president of the Chulalongkorn Student Council, talked about her feelings, saying that she was relieved to graduate after six years of exerting all her efforts with her studies. However, she felt sad to leave Chula since the university community was filled with warmth, camaraderie and the friendship of students who had always supported her. She had now stepped into the real world of work, which required a lot of adjustment to face the new challenges that lay ahead. Thanaporn left some words of advice to all students saying that “While studying is very important for all students, before we graduate, we will encounter several opportunities to gain experience along the way at this university. I urge you to look around and give importance to the things you find along your path, just as much as you give importance to your goals. Don’t forget to collect soft skills to be used with the hard skills you gain from your studies.

Phuriphat Santisirikul, a graduate of the Faculty of Communication Arts, majoring in Speech and Performing Arts and an influencer, talked about his feelings upon graduating, saying that he felt truly happy and proud, not just because he had graduated, but because it was like achieving an important goal in his life. Chulalongkorn University provided him with knowledge, connections, and experiences that could not be found anywhere else. The key to a successful education is to be open-minded and learn from everything around you, dare to make mistakes, and frequently ask for advice from teachers. The knowledge and experiences from Chulalongkorn University can be applied to work, life, and self-development, especially communication skills, thinking outside the box, and teamwork, which are important in the outside world of work.

Siriroj Silchaitan, a first-class honors graduate of the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, a national athlete who competes in Jujitsu, Kickboxing, and Mixed Martial Arts, said that he was extremely proud and happy to have achieved another level of academic success. Chulalongkorn University is the university he had always dreamed of studying at. He was impressed by the University, which not only provides academic knowledge, but also supports sports and provides scholarships for athletes with talent and who bring honor to the University. As an athlete, the key to success in studying is to manage time and prioritize well, both studying and practicing sports, so that you can do them simultaneously without neglecting either. He wants the students to have goals in life, such as what they are doing and for whom. “Manage your life well, and success will definitely follow.”

Siwakorn Mukthong, a graduate of the Faculty of Sports Science and a member of the Thai national karate team, talked about his feelings towards Chulalongkorn University. He said that he was impressed by many Chulalongkorn professors who understood each student who may have different tasks to attend to, such as some who are athletes or some who have to work and study. The professors will always help the students. The principle of studying in the past relied on clearly dividing time between studying and practicing sports. Whenever there was practice, he would review the lessons. He always told himself that studying is another important duty that he must perform well because education can be applied to playing sports as well. The more knowledge you have, the more you can apply it to playing sports. 

The sense of kinship and warmth found in the Chula community is priceless and a treasure worth keeping.
