Chula Holds Presidential Appointment Ceremony for Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat as the New University President 

On December 3, 2024, at Room 111, Maha Chulalongkorn Building, Chulalongkorn University held a Presidential Appointment Ceremony to mark the royal appointment of Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat as the new President of Chulalongkorn University. He succeeds Professor Dr. Bundhit Eua-arporn, whose term ended on June 30, 2024. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the University Council, and attended by council members, university executives, deans, directors of institutes, colleges, and centers, as well as the President of the Student Union and student representatives. 

The ceremony commenced with an honorary procession to Room 111. Student representatives placed the university’s emblem, the Phra Kiao, on a pedestal on stage. Professor Dr. Kanaphon Chanhom, Secretary of the University Council, presented the Royal Proclamation from the Prime Minister’s Office on a ceremonial tray. Both Professor Dr. Bundhit Eua-arporn and Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat presented floral offerings in homage to King Chulalongkorn, King Vajiravudh, and King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat also placed a floral cone to pay homage to the portrait of His Majesty the King. 

Professor Dr. Kanaphon Chanthahom then read the Royal Proclamation appointing Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat as President of Chulalongkorn University. Following this, Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Professor Dr. Bundhit Eua-arporn, and Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat took their places on stage. Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai presented the Royal Proclamation to Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat. Professor Dr. Bundhit Eua-arporn ceremonially returned the presidential chain of office to Professor Dr. Surakiart, who then officially presented it to Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat. 

Professor Dr. Surakiart expressed his appreciation and congratulations, on behalf of the University community.  This was followed by an address from Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat. The ceremony concluded with all attendees singing the university’s anthem, “Maha Chulalongkorn.”
