Overview

INDA, the International Program in Design and Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University is a 4-year program that produces graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Design.  

While the program’s main focus is design and architecture, INDA’score philosophy is geared to produce creative critical thinkers who are highly motivated to evolve, both themselves and the world around them, through built environment. The program provides students with a solid foundation for lifelong decision-making skills and long-term career goals in both local and global opportunities. Students will understand and respect the needs of industry and society as well as have an unwavering sense of commitment to global progress. Their awareness for values, ethics and social responsibility is pursued in parallel with their rigorous intellectual development. All classes are instructed by academics at the forefront of creative design and architectural thinking and practice.  

With a unique yet flexible INDA course structure, students may choose to continue on to graduate studies and become a practicing architect or choose a specialization in other design and planning disciplines such as urban design, landscape architecture, industrial design, interior design, design innovation. They may also decide to pursue graduate studies related design disciplines to become a historian / theorist, conservationist, building technologist, real estate investor, or facility manager. Another exciting possibility is to explore the business and technological aspect of architecture.

One of Southeast Asia’s Leading Design Schools

In 2013 INDA was awarded accreditation from the Architecture Council of Thailand (ACT).  With a focus on design innovation and experimentation, INDA aims to provide its graduates with a truly international perspective on architecture and design. Students will be taught by instructors from around the world who are at the forefront of architectural thinking and practice — including the United States, China, Japan, Australia, Spain, Sweden, Germany, France, Denmark, Russia, and Thailand.

Our instructors are graduates of leading international design schools, including The Architectural Association, Harvard Graduate School of Design, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Columbia University, Cornell University, University of California Berkeley, New York University, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Melbourne University, and many more. Thus, the faculty bring with them unique perspectives on architectural innovation from around the world.

Flexible Course Structure for More Diverse Career Path

With a unique but flexible course structure, INDA students may choose to continue on to graduate studies and become practicing architects or choose to specialize in related architectural disciplines to become historians, theorists, conservationists, building technologists, real estate investors, or facility managers. They may also decide to pursue graduate studies in other design and planning disciplines such as urban design, landscape architecture, industrial design, interior design, design innovation, or explore the business aspect of architecture.

International Engagement and Collaboration

To further complement this core curriculum, INDA also provides students with many opportunities for international engagement and collaboration through a series of workshops, traveling studios, design build projects, exchange programs, and tours. Many of these are facilitated by collaborations with international institutions including Parsons School of Design in New York City, Meiji University in Japan, National University of Singapore, Tung Hai University and National Taipei University of Technology in Taiwan, ETH in Zurich, Ecole Nationales d’Architecture Paris Belleville, Ecole Nationales d’Architecture Paris La Villette, and Ecole Nationales d’Architecture de Versailles in France, University of Canberra in Australia, The Oslo School of Architecture and Design in Norway, University of Aalborg in Denmark, et. al.

Career Opportunities

Our alumni are practicing architecture professionally and working in other related design professions around the world.  In 2013 INDA was awarded accreditation from the Architecture Council of Thailand (ACT), so INDA graduates are eligible to take the professional Thai Architecture licensing exam after working in an architecture firm for at least 2 years.  Many of our students also pursue further education at top universities.  Other areas of career paths also include historians, theorists, conservationists, building technologists, real estate investors, or facility managers.  Graduates may also decide to pursue graduate studies in other design and planning disciplines such as urban design, landscape architecture, industrial design, interior design, design innovation, or explore the business aspect of architecture.

Applicant Requirements:

  1. Two of one-inch (1”) photographs  
  2. Academic transcript(s); and in case of high school completion, a copy of a diploma from the school must also be submitted. In case of being currently in the final year of high school, a copy of official document certifying academic status from the applicant’s school is also required.
  3. Three test results of English, mathematics, and Test of Aptitude in Design that are not older than two years; with each meeting the score requirements below.

Portfolio:

The required format of the portfolio is a digital PDF file not exceeding 50 MB, stored and shared online by the applicant then submitted as a URL link in the online application form. The portfolio size is A4 with no more than 20 pages including covers. A hard copy of the portfolio is optional and can be additionally delivered to INDA Office to accompany the application. Portfolios not meeting these requirements will automatically be rejected.
